We now have a small pool on the deck for the kids to dip in when we're not trekking it to the zoo. They have had fun playing in it, especially running and jumping in! We purchased a zoo membership and have already taken several trips to enjoy the animals in the evenings.

We've taken a break the past few days- it's been hot, hot, hot! We've stayed indoors to keep cool and sunburn-free. Too, Joseph is getting over an ear infection, which we're treating with antibiotics. After one day of medicine, he was already another child!

I'm starting an "Out Of The Mouth Of Joseph" series of posts because of the zany concepts he has been sharing with us. The first I have to share (and I could share at least five others off the top of my head!) happened after we met James downtown at work last week. I had just pulled out of the parking spot and headed down Muhammad when the light at Fourth Street Live turned red. I stopped for the light, and yielded to pedestrians. Lunchtime is a very congested time of the day in this area. Large groups of people headed for lunch, while others were making their way across the street listening to their iPods or talking on the phone. As I sat waiting for the light to change, I heard from behind my seat in the smallest voice: "Move please". This was Joseph using his manners and requesting that the pedestrians move! I laughed all the way home!

A few pics for your enjoyment:

Fun Mornings Spent Indoors!

After spending several days inside due to the rain, we changed things up this morning by pulling out a chest drawer and filling it full of plastic balls! The results from the ABR confirmed there is normal hearing in both ears! No hearing loss was found, as once was a concern (posted in this blog) of the audiologist at Kosair Children's Hospital.

We started out bright and early...actually before it came 'bright' (7am!)...and made our way to the sedation area within the hospital. Joseph was not ready to go back to sleep, but reacted to the sedation medicine as predicted. Within 20-25 minutes, and after restyling my hair, saying "down" repeatedly, kicking and squirming, the medicine got the upper hand in order for the ABR to be performed. Despite the resistance to sleep, I took great pleasure in holding and rocking him to sleep. I was reminded of the days in his nursery when he was a wee one.... Oh, I digress!

Once completely asleep, I carried him down the hallway to the audiologist department, where the ABR was completed in 45 minutes or so. I was right there when Joseph woke up...He was in a groggy and good mood, and was thirsty. The anesthesiologist gave him some Sprite in a sippy cup to make sure he could swallow without trouble, and all was a green light for our little boy! He LOVED the Sprite, which I thought would be a special treat over apple juice or water.

Joseph was still unsteady on his feet when we got home. He wasn't ready to take a nap right away, although he was still weak. He finished his Sprite and ate a small pack of pudding while cozied up on the sofa watching Little Bear. His blue hat made it all better!

I'm so thankful that there is no hearing loss. I know this is small potatoes for those parents who have children with greater struggles. I just feel like our little boy has overcome enough already! And, I'm so glad I no longer have to worry about the possibility of hearing aides or ear tissue damage!

He's taking a great nap right now, which is what I hoped for. Sleeping off the medicine is the best way to get it out of the system.

Here's to healthy hearing while waiting for him to wake up so I can smother him with hugs and kisses!!!

xoxoxoxox

March Merriment

Oh, how this past week flew by!

Joseph had his First dentist appointment last Monday. He has all of his toddler teeth, with his two year molars still making their way in! I decided it was a good time to bring him to the dentist. He'll be comfortable going by starting him early! I had been telling him about the dentist and how she would ask him to open wide and say, "Aaaah!" On the way to the office we talked about how she would clean his teeth and make sure they were healthy.

He was such a cooperative and well-behaved patient! The dental assistant put a pair of giraffe sunglasses on Joseph so he would be wearing glasses (well, goggles) just like her! He was so interested in them that he barely realized when she started cleaning his teeth. After the cleaning (which was all of ten minutes for his little set of teeth!), the dentist followed up and said his teeth looked great and there were no cavities! That's what I love to hear!

Last Wednesday we took a family adventure to a family owned and private petting zoo in Prospect called Henry's Ark. We were greeted in the parking lot by three lamas and a couple donkeys, who all were very excited about the carrots James had in his pocket. One of the llamas sneezed shortly after we got out of the car, which startled Joseph so James carried him for about the first 20 minutes of our visit. Joseph especially loved feeding the swans and ducks pieces of bread. We finished up visit by seeing the camel, albino peacock, deer, and rabbits--which we fed the last of our carrots too. We'll definitely be making many more trips to Henry's Ark this spring and summer!

And, our fun week was wrapped up on Friday when Joseph met Emily for a playdate at Oxmoor Mall's pirate ship. They had a good time sliding down the pirate ship and driving the ice cream truck and bus together. Next time I HAVE to bring the camera!

Hello Big World!

Back by popular demand and to help fulfill those repeated requests for an update, I offer recent photos and an update!

Chloe is-

taking five or six steps independently (photos forthcoming) and loves to stand straight up in the middle of the floor

out of her bathring and supporting herself in the slick and sometimes unyielding bathtub

sitting in a booster seat at the table and absolutely loves to feed herself finger foods (no more pureed foods for this girl!)

one of Chloe's climbing escapades on the sofa

Joseph is going to a local preschool (omitting the name for privacy purposes)... He's pictured here with his teacher's aide and developmental interventionist on this first day of school. It's a great environment and he's in a class of eight with peers close to his age. It's a perfect fit for us! He's in class for two hours each week. This is his sixth week of class and he loves it just as much as the first day. Each time I pick him up he's still exploring the room as if I had just dropped him off for the morning.

First preschool artwork (and still on the fridge for our enjoyment!):

I love how the penguin's eyes are skewed...

A 'Gripping' Tale

Four days into February? I find this next to unbelievable! Had I not flipped the calendar to February yesterday, I would not know the date! Where do the days go when you're having fun playing with two little ones, and keeping up with relentless house work?

We've had a lot of excitement here lately. I'll start with Chloe this month...

Monday, I decided to add a little bubble bath fun to the morning. Shortly after splashing bubbles and dunking bath toys, Chloe became very still, gripped her hands onto her bath seat, and twisted her face into a grimace. This was not the kind of grimace that told me there were not enough bubbles in the tub and she wanted more. Well, you could say that.... But, oh no! I digress.... It was more of a 'I'm going to poopie now, here in my bubble bath with Joseph, so you better act fast and get me out of the tub' grimace. I managed to swish her out of the tub and wrap her in a towel, but not before a little surprise plunked into her bath seat (thankful for it!), followed by a thud landing on the tub's ledge.

Bath time came to an abrupt halt for both, needless to say. The whirlwind cleanup coordination that took place moments later is baffling, really. I redefined the term 'multi-tasking' in the moments that followed! A mother with only two arms (yes, only two!) managed to hold Chloe-her business now finished, get Joseph from the tub unscathed, scoop poopies with several sheets of toilet paper, flush the toilet, drain the tub, all the while explain to a puzzled and shivering Joseph why bathtime was cut short.

Amazingly, I would not trade a bath time like this for any other. Call me crazy! It made for an exciting, unforgettable morning. I laughed through lunch and was tickled throughout the afternoon as I recalled the scene, with all it's commotion and haste. From this, I learned more about myself -- that I fare well under pressure (you can call it that!!) and can laugh at a situation that may leave another stressed and headed for the hills.

Now, if only I could grow a third arm....??

(Chloe, if you read this when you're older, I realize sharing your 'business' is not socially appropriate, but this is definitely a moment I want to remember. )

When Life Hands You Lasagna Noodles, Get Creative

Someone found the lasagna noodles and had a little fun.....
I wonder if he was going for this. This was a huge first for him--probably more for me, honestly! ;) He was eager to get to the toys in the playroom, and didn't even look up to see me slip out of the room. I briefly got acquainted with the ladies taking care of him before registering him for the playgroup. Then, I stood in the hallway for ten minutes watching through the door to make sure he was acclimated before heading off for some time with local moms. Another mom reassured me that he'd be okay....I knew that he would be- he's very social. The moment was more about me taking it all in and realizing that our little boy is growing up so quickly!

When I picked him up after MOPS, he was a little upset only because two other mothers had beat me to the room to get their little ones. The caregiver told me that he started to get a little worried when he didn't see me behind them. After much hugs and kisses, I got a great 'report' on Joseph that would make any mother's heart swell with pride! They said he was very nice to the other children and even gave one little girl her pacifier when she was crying. He has such a loving heart!

Here's a pic I snapped of Joseph once we were home and on familiar ground:

(Joseph is wearing his fluorescent sticker from his first playgroup......awwwwww)

a Dollar 'Ninety Nine!

Today, James watched the Little Ones so I could enjoy a few precious hours of 'me time'. (another blog to cover my steal o' deals later....with pics!)

When I came home from my fun outing, Joseph came running to the door to see me. James and I were sifting through the bags of goodies, and we came across the gift wrap in the Walgreen's bag. Last night my brother, Daniel, came from Jasper and spent the night to spend the holiday with us. Joseph woke up last night and was surprised to see Uncle Dan sitting at the computer Googling something about chess, molecular genetics, or quantum computing...you know...the usual...for Daniel! Joseph said what I believe was his version of 'Uncle Dan' when he was getting out of bed this morning.

Uncle Duane and Auntie Christine came this afternoon to share in a large feast that James prepared. We dined on turkey, ham (James made a brown sugar glaze!), yeast rolls, green bean casserole (I made this...teeh, heeh), potato salad, deviled eggs, and turkey stuffing. We had a great time chatting over delicious, warm traditional foods. Duane and Christine loved watching Joseph sign for 'more' yeast rolls! (He's like his Momma...loves the bread!)

After dinner, the guys caught up while Christine and I went through a few boxes of baby goodies for Little Simon- their soon-to-be-arrival! She is now 33 weeks, and is feelin' every week of it! She's all belly, and is cute as a button pregnant. Little Simon was gifted a lot of Joseph's clothes....I reminisced looking at the little gowns for night-night, his little shoes, and outfits that he outgrew. Even while he ran from room to room, laughing, showing off for his uncles and aunt, those little baby moments were being searched for in my memory.

This was Chloe's first Thanksgiving. She won't remember any of it, but I will, a lot of moments. She was lavished with affection by her uncles. She showed them her new sounds (ya ya ya, ba, ba, ba, da, da, da), her speedy commando crawl, and her pull-to-stand! Oh, and let me not forget impatience! Ha! She grunted and kicked her legs in between bites of food while I was shoveling it in as fast as possible!

Our camera slept through the whole day--shame on him! I was happy to be in the moment and enjoy others enjoying our Little Ones. A few still frames remain in my mind tonight as I write: Joseph's little hand on Christine's belly (we told him his baby cousin was in there); Daniel sharing rhyming words with Chloe (goggle, boggle, coddle, moddle); James cooking his heart out, then relaxing afterwards with Duane and Daniel; Duane loving up to Chloe and she was talking to him; Joseph running around in his yellow pajamas that Emma bought for him (he wore them tonight for the first time)...so cute and fuzzy! These are the days I live for...family days!

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've Been Tagged- It's Your Turn!

Leslie tagged me last week and I need to respond and forward the game!

1) Choose the 4th picture folder on my computer
2) Choose the 4th picture
3) Explain the picture
4) Tag 4 other people

So, you really want to know what's lurking out on our computer and in our pic files?? :) It's dangerous folks...let me go see what's there to share:

Here's the photo from our external picture drive. He's lovin' the toys he received: a Little People barnyard set, a bop-it ball, and a police car and policeman set.

Joseph had his two year pediatrician appointment with Dr. Al, and we were given a clean bill of health. The nurse weighed Joseph on the 'big boy' scale--no more sitting nakedly in the bucket seat for our Little Man! He now weighs 25 lbs., which puts him in the fifteenth percentile for his weight (34" in height, 45%tile).

I'm curious if those stand-up scales measure ounces....or are ounces now a measurement of the past just like months? Joseph is now simply "two". What's a momma to do??

Dr. Al was very pleased with Joseph's progress, and checked off all the fine and gross motor skills for a happy and healthy two year old. Dr. Al noted that Joseph is still a smidgen behind with speech, but was so delighted with the progress that our little 1 lb. 9 oz. miracle has made! Joseph's receptive skills continue to shine (ask him anything!!), and his language and cognitive skills are anywhere from delayed. Kim, Joseph's speech therapist, is working weekly with Joseph on speech development and it shows!

Every day I give thanks to the angels at Kosair's who were there for our growing son when he was so tiny. This is a ripe age for moving a toddler to a booster seat.

He truly enjoys sitting at the table with us and in his 'big boy' seat (a rite of passage, persay, since he's dining at the dinner table).

Our Little Man will be two years old tomorrow, and I'm beside myself. Moving from a highchair to a booster seat, working on potty training, almost all his teeth in, understanding everything going on around him, turning two.... He's growing up too quickly....

The highchair is now completely Chloe's throne. Joseph will love running around in a costume for the next month, even if no candy is involved (he won't know the difference). And, Chloe, she will love being a princess or a pumpkin, or a pumpkin princess, for her first Halloween.

The other night before reading books and before bed time, James put on a show for the three of us to enjoy. Spontaneous, full of laughter and love. With Chloe on my right (leg) and Joseph on my left, we sat in anticipation for some entertainment from Daddy. James juggled his colorful bean bag balls way up in the air, spinning them, and even did a toss or two under his leg. Joseph sat in merriment with his eyes glued to James! And Chloe, well, let's just say she enjoyed it more than anything! She tensed up her body with excitement, squealed and kicked her little legs with glee! Very cute! It's just one of those precious priceless moments that I'll remember for a long time to come.

Until the next show, and when the camera is on point, this picture will have to substitute (he's almost as cute as James):

Would you like to see a future juggling act, too? or pictures of how we spent our Halloween?

Don't Miss The Bliss

Chloe: Brother, I see the alien signal coming through our Classical Baby
video.

Joseph: I'm getting the same signal through my time-warp watch receiver. I thought I would take a few moments to share an update.

Yesterday Mom and my nephew, Jimi, came to visit. I had to reschedule Joseph's ABR since he has a cold virus. These symptoms reared their ugly heads Monday then worsened through the week. I was holding onto promise that it was just allergies, but I was proven wrong. One virus down....how many to go? We had much more fun hanging out than being sedated for an ABR, despite the coughs and runny nose:

Jimi--I cannot believe he will be twelve soon!

Mom and Chloe-
it's a little cloudy, but it's a shot! James and I were just saying that we needed to buy one for this season! They also came packing goodies of cereal, juices, and crackers--all of Joseph's favorites. We had a fun catch up visit while Joseph carried all the goodies into the living room to share with us!

Today I am missing out on a get together that I organized at my friend Val's house. (Good goin', right?) The girls still manage to get together, and especially now that we have children tales to swap. There's fun to be had! Leigh, Valerie, and Lacey were planning to be there. Alhough we have kept in touch over the phone, I have not seen Leigh since a bonfire gathering last fall...and it's that time again! Can't wait to her at this year's bonfire! My longtime friend Lacey recently purchased a new camera (for her upcoming business venture!!!) and was planning to take a few shots of the Little Ones. I was really looking forward to that, so we're tentatively rescheduling that date. I'll definitely show off her talent when we have some pictures that she's taken. And, Val, I'll probably not see her until after the holidays! ha! I cannot believe I'm guilty of this blogosphere crime! The 'real world' has kept me hopping. Seriously, if my to-do list gets any longer, it's going to grow arms & legs and run from me! And, my brain, well, it's already on system-overload, but I'm still able to finish sentences....that's a good sign!

a few servings on our plate:

~Joseph has an ABR scheduled for this Friday; I'm nervous because they'll have to sedate him with an oral medication. I'll be glad, though, if hearing loss is ruled out. At his last hearing appointment, the audiologist said she has concern that Joseph has trouble hearing high-pitched frequencies. Keep you posted....

~Someone has the sniffles. I hope it's only allergies and not a cold; otherwise, the ABR may be postponed.

~Meal planning- We need some grub! We also need fall clothes! We'll be out and about soon.

~Our 10 Year Wedding Anniversary is this month! We're planning an outing for ourselves to celebrate. Aaah, how do I love him? Let me count the ways.

~Chloe is in the beginning stages of First Steps. Joseph's physical therapist, Courtney, is going to take on Chloe to help her get that jump start in mobility. Everyone- watch out! Yesterday I had her up on her knees and hands and she was rockin' and rarin' to go!

~I have a whole list of crafty things I want to create and/or finish!

~Joseph received a haircut from Mommy Monday. Sitting still? Not in his vocab!

~Oh, keep everyone updated on the blog. (I better include this, right???!)

With all this mentioned, I am truly enjoying my days with the Little Ones. Next time I blog, I'll let you in on what Joseph and Chloe have been up to.

Watching a Signing Time dvd- I was able to get a shot of Monday's haircut- not bad!

There's something to be said about a little boy's shoes being kicked off and left on the steps outside. Rather, we lounged and played and made invisible the boxes that surrounded us! :) I even took an hour nap while both Little Man and Chloe-Chloe were sleeping. (a fifteen minute power nap turned one hour nap- the first eight minutes I remember thinking, "I have this and this and this to get done.....but, this feels so good..."

Joseph's speech therapist, Kim, came toting her goodie bags this morning and offered us encouragement about Joseph's progress. Joseph's sign knowledge has increased and he's vocalizing more sounds than during his last appointment. Kim is such a creative, fun, and thoughtful person. A great match suggested and paired with us from Courtney. Recently, Kim's company had decided to end it's in-home health care program. We're keeping our fingers crossed that she will continue in her field. We love her and she's great at interacting with little tots and their parents.

After naps and lunches, we took a stroll to Mid-City Mall to check out a nearly new shop. Closed. We walked around a few streets near our place, then made our way to Tyler Park ( I love the bridge! and the sloping hills to the park--great for sleigh rides!), where Joseph played and James pushed him on the swings. Chloe-Chloe even took a ride in a toddler swing and absolutely loved it. Gummy grins and giggles. Joseph thought it was too cool to get to swing next to his sister.

Another beautiful day "finding happiness in the Highlands" <-- the street banners on Bardstown Road have this slogan on them Oh, and I found out a duet group The Watson Twins, which I saw on Jay Leno a few nights ago, is from Louisville. I celebrated by unpacking, rescheduling and making appointments, wiping dirty bottoms, and catching up on laundry!

Naw, actually we celebrated my birthday Sunday with Dad, Emma, and Sasha. James surprised me with a cake from ValuMarket, a local grocery who makes the best cakes of all! It was air-brushed hot pink and was laced with purple ribbon icing and topped off with two huge flowers. Very pretty. While James and Dad caught up on things, all of us girls walked to KFC and brought back lunch for all to eat. After eating, we pigged out on cake and strawberry ice cream. They surprised me with the cutest purse- ILI- and some $money$ to boot!

Joseph and Chloe picked out a beautiful card for me and even wrote in it (it must've been Joseph's penmanship since he's the older of the two):

We can't talk yet but if we could we would say often how much we love you!

Your loving children,
Joseph and Chloe

xoxo xoxo

My brother, Daniel, called me yesterday to wish me a Happy Birthday. It's always great to hear from him, but to know that he thought of me made it that more special. Dan is such a sweet and loving guy. We're planning to have him visit us really soon in our new place. I think he'll have a good time with the L.O.s (Little Ones).

We Are In Our New Nest- Still Unpacking!

To all our faithful followers: it's official- we've moved! We're now Highlanders--and I'm lovin' it. Every morning I have opened the main door & let the morning air in through the screen door.

This post will have to be picture less of our picturesque little carriage house and yard. I wish I had my camera handy; however, it's still M.I.A. It was one of the last items packed, but must've gotten put in an unlabeled box. Oopsie!

I went to the kitchen to make myself a salad (with sunflower seeds- love 'em!) before starting this post and then heard the chattiest and noisiest squirrel. I thought it was a bird call that was unfamiliar. Mr. Squirrel was sounding his alarm over something. I shared a few of my sunflower seeds with him in case he was hungry.

We're still up to our ears in boxes, but we're slowly unpacking. I wanted him to make it through the NICU and by saying such that was my way of looking positively for our future. Well, it is here! And, Joseph struck- as you can see in the photos! We are on the move- again!

After three long months of ongoing maintenance issues within our apartment and the building, we are making a move to the TheHighlands. James and I drove around earlier this week just 'browsing the market' and hit the jackpot on a cute and cozy carriage house off Bardstown Road. We're so fortunate to have found this perfect match for our family. Our timing was perfect; we saw the property manager putting up the sign when we drove past. It was amazing to see how well Emily was doing and to watch them play together was so cute! The doctors and nurses at Kosair's worked miracles for our little ones so we could enjoy them today! Susanne and I caught up on the latest when we weren't chasing the kiddos around the mall!

(I would have more pictures posted, but most of them were blurred from a slow-shutter camera and fast-moving little ones!)

Saturday- I invited my friend, Linda W, over to dine on three-cheese manicotti, salad, and bread sticks. Linda brought two bottles of wine from Turtle Run, a local winery in Corydon, Indiana. I have found an appreciation for wine after drinking their Rufus Red (named after their lovable dog that runs the grounds). The conversation was a great compliment to the food and drink!

Sunday- Oh, was this a busy day! I went to Amanda's baby shower and enjoyed myself very much while she was showered with gifts! Watch here ---> http://olliesescapades.blogspot.com/ <--- for details. (I want pictures!!!) I forgot my camera in the frenzy of getting out the door with our little ones, presents, and a diaper bag stuffed to the gills for a full day outing. Jessica and Mom watched Chloe so I could have some 'me time'. James spent the afternoon with Joseph and his Dad, eating in Corydon and then playing at Hayswood Park. Afterwards, we drove to Mom's and spent a few hours visiting. We could not leave without walking over to the neighbor's place to visit the chickens, goats, ducks, and pigs.

We walked in the door around 930pm- way past bedtimes! Who says you can't sacrifice a little sleep for some fun????

Sticking Around

Joseph discovered that banana holds better than professional mousse...and tastes better too!

Before

Joseph has been into animal sounds lately. He has been somewhat fussy, tugging at his ears and not wanting to go to sleep. It turns out there was no middle ear infection, no strep throat, nor any reason to take him to the doctor. :) Dr. B. did say his throat was a little red from nasal drainage, possibly caused from teething.

False alarms are good news... and so are stickers from your doctor!

It's the holiday weekend and we are preparing for the annual Satterfield Family Reunion. I have been there before by myself, but not with the little ones. I'm curious how many steps he took today!! We saw birds and squirrels galore playing under the trees. By the way, the trees in this park are massive and offer the best shade around in my book. We spied much at the park: an elderly man feeding a squirrel from a bread bag, a squirrel (possibly the same one) getting a drink of water from a fountain, a dog being trained to sit (Joseph did not help with this...), a blackbird taking a bath near a water hose, a noisy airplane overhead (the first he pointed out to me that I can recall), and much more. Despite the low humidity, the weather was warmer than what I had anticipated, so we called it an afternoon and headed home. Sweat beads and all. I cannot wait for the day when we take Joseph hiking and camping!

Teething Bites!

We have been going through Orajel like it's candy! I'm sneaking in a few minutes here while the two little ones are napping and before I'm off to organizing the entryway closet (another project off the to-do list).

Tuesday was a busy day for us: Joseph's speech therapist came, Joseph had an appointment at the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic, and we visited Kosair's NICU to see the doctors and nurses that took care of him those first few months of his life. I've noticed a change in Joseph's speech, although Kim said it would be a gradual process of getting him to be more vocally expressive. We're more aware of his speech delay and what we can do to help him expand his vocab. We're including a few signs, which I can tell are making a difference. He seems to be more interested in learning, too.

Neonatal appointment: Good news and bad news.... Joseph is doing really well cognitively. The developmental therapist said that if he walked in her room and without her knowing his medical history she would think that he 'was just a normal kid for his age'. But, because she does know his medical history she thinks that all the childhood intervention we can get the better... I agree. The bad news is that Joseph isn't growing as he should; he has gained a little over 2 pounds in the past six months. He now weighs 22 lbs. and 2 oz. We're starting him on a Pediasure diet, replacing his whole milk. Dr. Devlin said that we'd be spending his college savings on it-- and we will be! I have a 'high calorie foods' list, too, of what Joseph should be eating. At first glance, I thought, "this is a heart attack....", but it's what's prescribed to get some meat on Joseph's bones! Dr. D. said this lack in growth could be because he is more active now; however, it should be watched closely and remedied since he was/is a preemie.

We had a wonderful time seeing the folks at Kosair's. One special nurse, Susan, practically came running when she saw Joseph. They played together for a little while before Susan had to go back to tend to a new arrival. Watching them play together took away the stuffy feeling I was having remembering all the times I walked up to the NICU window and asked to see our baby. After that, we walked back through the pedway; Joseph loved being above the trucks on the street! You should have heard the motor sounds he was making.

Among other news, I made Chloe a pipe cleaner flower that Joseph destroyed shortly after. James made Joseph a watch, which was destroyed too. Good thing pipe cleaners recycle! We're having a lot of fun with them. The one creation that Joseph hasn't destroyed are a pair of wide-rim glasses.

Here today.....

Gone today.....

We have a few new additions to our family..I told you that we were busy! It's relaxing to watch them swim and explore in their world. We also bought a fish that Joseph can play with. See the resemblance?

The past few days have flown by! It's now Saturday morning, and I have a lot on our schedule for today. Mostly, I am getting ready for our Satterfield Family Renunion held at Sycamore Springs. I am working on a mailing to be sent to those extended family members whose addresses I have gathered from other extended family members. Keep you posted on the progress...

Joseph's new speech therapist came yesterday to evaluate Joseph. She was recommended to us by his physical therapist, Courtney (she may be discharging him soon from physical therapy--yay!). Kim Cripe is the speech therapist's name; she is sooo sweet! She loves children and was so patient and loving to Joseph. She gave me the news I expected: Joseph's receptive language is above par for his age, and he's behind for his expressive language skills. Our homework until she comes again is to sign 'drink' and 'eat' to him, and to start talking with him any time after he talks (which we do this some, but not all the time) to promote conversation. So, I'm going to be very diligent about repeating everything he does, even if it's "vroom, vroom, grrrrrr" (these are his throaty sounds for truck). She'll be sharing with us a report of her full assessment, but for now we know what we need to work on until she visits again.

Joseph and I went to our favorite part of Waterfront Park yesterday and played. He loves going down the slides and climbing through all the tunnels. I would have pictures of this, but there's a 'water' area too, and I didn't want to risk getting our camera wet! He was all over the place running from one area to another, making friends along the way. There were two beautiful blond-haired little girls (Joseph was enthralled!) hanging upside down from monkey bars! He was so fascinated watching them hang upside down by their feet and knees and swinging in the air. I could see, "Mom, I REALLY want to try that!", written all over Joseph's face!

All for now, but I'll keep you updated with what's new around here!

College Funds Depleted At Toy Store

Ok, so no funds were depleted, but I was very tempted this week! Tuesday on Mommy's Day Out, I discovered the BEST local toy store on a street that I go down at least once a week! I had just made my way out of Pizza Hut and noticed a little store tucked away across the street with a toy soldier standing guard in front and decided to check it out. This is when I discovered Playthings Toy Shoppe, my few favorite toy store! (Joseph and Chloe are going to love it even more!) I am supposed to be the parent, right? I felt like a kid again, my head spinning looking at all the games, puppets, stuffed animals, wooden blocks, plastic planes and trains, race car and train tracks, bath toys...oh, the list could go on and on! I can't wait to go back and it's only been a couple days since I visited.

After all the excitement of exploring this store (of course I had to pick up everything to 'see' it), I ended up buying Joseph his first tool belt and a Magic Mic. I can't wait to go back and it's only been a couple days since I visited.

Previously unemployed toddler, Joseph, turned work-a-holic handyman loves to help out around the house. He has fixed the baby gate to the kitchen, repaired his window hinge, his knees, and his dresser's handles. Joseph's tool belt even came with a beeper, so he can't escape his customers! :) So far, though, he's managed t o stay pretty busy around our place. I've posted a few pics of him hard at work and taking a break from his long day. :)

Chloe's job- being beautiful- remains easy as ever!

Diving Into Blogging

This is my first post
which I'm delighted to share
And will be the start of many
from our family and Mr. Bear

I'm taking a head dive right into blogging and am very excited about this adventure. I've finally found a medium that is going to work for me! This will help me keep our friends and family updated with every day happenings that would otherwise be lost in time....and....this will prevent all of our precious pictures from becoming stale on our digital camera.

Who am I? A stay-at-home mother of two beautiful children who loves anything crafty and that brings out my creative side....

Who Is Mr Bear? One sunny day in San Diego James and I went shopping at the Navy Exchange (NEX). I walked past the cutest bear on the shelf, who happened to be waiting for a new home. I showed him to James with many "oohs" and "aahs" about how cuddly and cute he looked. After we finished shopping and were stepping into the car, James announced to me that he needed to go back into the NEX and make a payment on our Navy Exchange card. I was oblivious to this (and to James' antics at this early stage in our marriage) and waited for him to return to the car.

When we were crossing over Coronado Bridge James starting telling me a tale about how the lady behind the counter was coming onto him. Repeating his encounter with the salesperson, he said she said, "Aww, what a nice guy you are buying that cute bear!" My ears began to ring as I heard this, and I knew that the bag he sneakily put in the backseat had in it the cuddly bear I had admired. He came clean and took the bear out of the bag for me to enjoy on the way home.

Shortly after the bear came home and way, way, way before our first born was thought of or conceived, James suggested we name him "Mr. Bear" and give him to our first born. After Joseph was born and during his hospital stay, Mr. Bear was by his side and to this day they sleep together in his crib. Thus, the legend of Mr. Bear began and continues in our household.
